This space is for library use at Oak Grove Lutheran School. Please speak with Mrs. Molm if you have any questions.
What I have done is this: There are always a few students
who cannot check out due to not bringing their books back.
I put them to work doing "library chores" so that they
have something to do during check out time. One of those
jobs is going around and pushing the books back up. I also
have them do jobs like sharpening pencils, making sure all
of the programs are closed on the computers, etc...
there are always a few
students who find their books very quickly, and may need a
job to do while they are waiting for everyone else to
finish since silent reading is not always feasible (it
tends to get noisy during check out time).
I need to assume nothing. Teach how to use guide words, index, table of contents. Baby spaces.
Shelf talkers - piece of paper folded in half. Half goes under book, the other half hangs off the shelf with a description of the book.
